Breaking News - Russia Deploys Destroyer Admiral Tributs to South China Sea

Russians anti-submarine destroyer Admiral Tributs and the sea tanker Boris Butomato arrive in the Philippine for an unplanned maritime exercise in the South China Sea. The exercise will be focussed on training the Philippines to battle piracy and terrorism in a bid to strengthen security in the region, report from Russia's state-run Sputnik News.

This is the first visit by Russian navy ships since Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office last June. He is also seeking to develop a diplomatic alliance with Moscow.
On Friday, President Rodrigo Duterte visited the warship and was welcome with Russian Navy officials and Ambassador Igor Khovaev.

The visit comes as President Rodrigo Duterte seeks to forge closer military ties with Russia – along with China – to demonstrate a foreign policy that is independent of the country's long-time ally, the United States.
